Elizabeth "Betty" Shultis, 81 of Madison, SD died Saturday, May 12, 2012 at the Madison Community Hospital in Madison.
Elizabeth “Betty” Hoek was born on March 22, 1931 at Arlington, SD to Nick and Nillie (Wobbema) Hoek. She attended Maple Grove rural school for 8 years and 4 years at Franklin High School graduating in 1949. Betty married Ronald Shultis on September 4, 1950 at her parent’s home. Betty worked on the family farm for 30 years and then 17 years at Bethel Home in Madison. Betty enjoyed gardening, loved flowers, bowling, camping and fishing with family and friends. Most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Betty is survived by her husband, Ron of Madison; 2 sons, David (Julie) Shultis of Aberdeen, SD and Dan (Julie) Shultis of Tea, SD; 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Nick (Marion) Hoek of Renner, SD and a host of friends, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother, Marvin "Bud" Hoek and a sister Emma Dahman.
Funeral services for Mrs. Shultis will be at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at the Oldham Lutheran Church in Oldham with Pastor Becky Senner officiating, burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 in the church and preceding services in the church on Wednesday.
